Our History
Tulsa Sheffield United was formed in 1984 as one of the original clubs to make up the Premier Club in the Green Country Soccer Association of Eastern Oklahoma.  Coached by Vic Hughes and Alan Woodward, the original five teams (4 boys and 1 girls) were the first to take the field for the club in 1984.  Because coach Woodward played for the English Professional team of Sheffield United, the club was given the same the same name in honor of his professional career. Alan also played for the Tulsa Roughnecks of the North American Soccer League.

The original four teams travelled to England in 1985 to play in two tournaments. The girls team received 2nd Place in the London Pan Am Tournament.  The same year, the girls won their and the club’s first State Championship.  This team went on to win an amazing three state titles along with several league titles and tournament championships. The bar was set for excellence from that point forward.

Due to the wonderful success with the girls team, the club decided to concentrate on a girls-only soccer program, the first club in the region to do so.  From 1988 to 1999, Sheffield United was an all girls team club.  Because of the club’s amazing success, a demand for a boys program emerged.  In 2000 a U-13 boys team was formed.

Our Philosophy
Our whole objective is the complete development of players that will not only prepare them

for college athletics, but for their future as a productive, well-rounded member of society. This philosophy has paid off; our club’s success has come in the form of numerous State Championships, Regional Titles, League Champions, and Tournament Champions.

More importantly, the academic successes that our players have achieved and continue to

maintain is a testament to the clubs focus on building a complete player.  Sheffield players have been awarded more than three million dollars ($3,000,000) in soccer scholarships to play collegiate soccer at NCAA Division 1 through NAIA colleges.

In addition, Sheffield United is one of the few clubs in the area with a private facility. The club supports its young players who have the desire to play the game at an advanced level.

The Coaches
The Sheffield coaching staff is composed of a blend of experienced coaches with both English and American soccer background. They have been selected by our coaching committee based on their knowledge of the game, ability to communicate, and their willingness to dedicate their time and effort to coaching their teams.
